I decided to try something different this week. At my Weight Watchers meetings, I have heard over and over again the importance of getting two teaspoons of healthy oil each day. I haven’t done this. Ever. And in the past year, I have still managed to lose 40+ pounds. However, over the holidays, I have gained a little back – about two pounds. I know, it’s not that much, but regardless, I have gained. So I decided this week to try the healthy oil thing.
So what is considered healthy oil? According to the Weight Watchers website, healthy oils include olive, sunflower, safflower, canola and flaxseed. Apparently though, using flaxseeds or eating sunflower seeds doesn’t count!
Why does eating oil help? I guess healthy oils are essential for proper body and brain function. I need all the help I can get in that area! Healthy oils also help our bodies absorb vitamins A, D, E and K.
Regardless of why or what healthy oils do, I am giving it a shot.
The first day, I took my two teaspoons and just shot them down, like a shot of tequila. I don’t like either, but I will gladly take a shot of tequila over a shot of extra virgin olive oil any day! The next day, I put the oil over my green beans that I had for lunch. It wasn’t bad.
The day after that, and every day since then, I have mixed my two teaspoons worth of oil in with oatmeal for breakfast. I usually have yogurt and cereal for breakfast, but there was no way I was going to mix the oil in with my yogurt and ruin the taste. I also put two tablespoons of sugar-free maple syrup in with my oatmeal, which was not the instant kind, but the quick oats that you make on the stove.
I don’t mind eating it this way. I guess we’ll see what happens on Wednesday when I weigh in at my Weight Watchers meeting if the oil seems to help. If it does, I might keep it up. To be honest, I am doubtful that I will. But we’ll see. I think I would much rather crank up my exercise instead!
